TigerMoth World Tour Pilot Passes On

April 7, 2007

From rcgroups.com forum:

I just wanted to be sure that all World Tour Tiger Moth pilots are aware of the passing of one of our family. Basketcase, (Wayne) was a friend to us all and broke the bonds of Earth last week. A service was held by his family at his favorite flying field, and many of his flying friends attended to send him off. Wayne was my mentor. He contributed so much to RCGroups and to his love, the Tiger Moth. I still cannot believe he is gone. Wayne fought health problems all of his life. Yet, he continued with his love of flying. He set an example for all of us and it breaks my heart to bring this news to the thread. I know he wanted to see the completion of this tour. So, if you are not aware of this, or would like to make a comment there is a thread dedicated to Wayne here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=661796

Please take a moment to read or post to the thread. RIP my friend. I will never forget you. I'll think of Basketcase every time I fly my moth. It is hard to take, but his spirit goes on with his signature on the WTTM. I posted a poem, and I understand it was read by his sister at the service. I'll say goodbye to Wayne once more by posting it here again.

If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

I told them I wouldn't be back until 16:30 (4:30 PM for you non 24hr types) because that is when Beverly gets done work... Moth Delivered!

September 13, 2006

Good news!

The World Tour Tiger Moth arrived at the post office today! I have picked it up and it is now safely in my possession. I picked it up just after 4:30 PM today, Tuesday, September 13, 2006.

The plane was in good condition, no damage that I can see. The logbook slipped out during shipping, but did not cause any damage. I’ve been reading through it… I can’t believe how many pilots there have been. I will be #79. Unbelievable. I was also surprised how many signatures are on the plane. Pictures do not do it justice!

The Skies of Delaware

August 26, 2006

Flight Report from Cliff "Aeronca" Truempy

Although I have followed the WTTM nearly since its inception, a New Jersey Pilot had already signed up to fly so I never dreamed I’d get the chance to participate in the WTTM’s saga. Then in mid-April of this year I receive a PM from Keith asking if I’d be willing to fly the WTTM in Delaware if the originally scheduled pilot couldn’t make it. As time went by and it turned out, he was not able to make it, so I was thrilled!
